SUMMARY:Prescription Pruning Qualification (PPQ) Introduction Seminar
DESCRIPTION:About the Seminar\n\n\nThis half-day session introduces the Prescription Pruning Qualification (PPQ) process and emphasizes the importance of developing clear\, objective-based pruning prescriptions before pruning begins. Dr. Edward F. Gilman’s passion for advancing pruning science and improving tree architecture helped shape the foundation of PPQ and fulfilled his vision of creating one more comprehensive pruning manual for the arboriculture industry. Recognizing widespread inconsistencies in pruning practices\, the Florida Chapter ISA Pruning Credential Committee collaborated with Dr. Gilman to develop a program grounded in current research\, ANSI standards\, and industry Best Management Practices. \nDespite decades of available research and guidance\, many green industry professionals continue to perform improper or substandard pruning\, often due to limited training and the absence of structured educational processes. The PPQ program organizes existing pruning science\, standards\, and field practices into a systematic approach for evaluating tree conditions\, identifying pruning objectives\, and preparing defensible prescriptions that guide production crews toward consistent and measurable outcomes. Through classroom instruction\, outdoor pruning applications\, observation\, and technique refinement\, participants gain the knowledge and practical experience necessary to become skilled pruning prescribers and producers capable of applying objective-based pruning in the field. This session will conclude with an outdoor discussion and evaluation of urban trees surrounding the Chinese Y.M.C.A. Wu Kai Sha Village. \n\n\n\n* This Pre-Summit Seminar is an introduction to PPQ. It is not the official PPQ Qualification Course or Examination. \n\n\n  \nWho should attend?\n\n\n\nAnyone who performs tree pruning or manages others who must perform tree pruning. Anyone involved in Nursery Production. Anyone who desires how to manage young or established trees for longevity. Government Civil Servants responsible for overseeing the management of trees being established or already in the landscape. \n  \n\nAbout The Educator\n \nKristoffer Rasmussen\n\nKristoffer Rasmussen is a distinguished figure in the Tree Care Industry\, renowned for his unwavering passion for trees\, safety training\, and advancing tree care companies. With a background as a municipal\, commercial and residential arborist\, he brings invaluable expertise to his advocacy for arboriculture excellence.
